Step 4: Get a demo in a real environment
Spec sheets are useless at 2 AM. I learned this when we had a grant deadline and I had 48 hours to decide on a bipap machine. There was no time for a demo. Step 6: Read the warranty and service terms before you sign
Medical equipment breaks at the worst time. I had a used defibrillator fail once during a simulated code, and it scared the hell out of me. Now I verify three things:
- Does the warranty cover parts and labor? For how long?
- What's the response time for service? Is there a loaner program?
- Where is the nearest authorized service technician?
